Are you seeing Pepega on Twitch all the time but don’t know what it means? We’ve all been there… This article will tell you everything you need to know!

Twitch chat is FULL of emotes that you might not comprehend at first, which is why we’ve dedicated ourselves to explaining each and every one of these popular emotes.

What does Pepega mean on Twitch?

Pepega is used when a streamer does something stupid on stream.

Pepega isn’t the nicest of Twitch emotes and generally, the emote is spammed by chat to make fun of a streamer’s actions.

The Pepega is a Twitch emote featuring a distorted, laughing, Pepe the frog, signifying that he is making fun of something or someone.

If you do not have Better Twitch TV installed, you won’t see the Pepega emote, instead, you’ll just see the Twitch chat spam the word ‘Pepega’ in chat.

Origin of Pepega on Twitch

Pepega is a Twitch emote that was first uploaded to BTTV and FrankerFacez on 4/8/2018 by user Adew.

Just like MonkaS and other monka emotes, the Pepega emote started picking up popularity once it was adopted as part of Twitch streamer Forsen‘s chat.

How to get Pepega emote on Twitch

If you want to get Pepega on Twitch, you will have to install the Better Twitch TV browser extension. We have a separate article dedicated to the installation of BTTV. Here’s the TL;DR:

if you can't see the pepega emote it is because you need the betterttv extension installed
  1. Go to BetterTTV.com select your browser and download the browser extension, you can then see the emotes on supported Twitch channels.
  2. To configure your BTTV options, head on over to the chat of any Twitch streamer (they don’t have to be live) and hit chat settings, there you can personalize your BTTV settings.

If you wish to add the Pepega and other emotes to your OWN Twitch channel, you can do so by signing in to BTTV using your Twitch credentials and authorizing your Twitch account. Next, you can head over to the emote list and add Pepega to your Twitch channel.

Afterward, your viewers will then be able to use the Pepega emote on your Twitch channel and they will see it if they have BTTV installed as a browser extension (which the majority does already anyway).

Origin of Pepe the frog Meme

Pepe The Frog is an anthropomorphic frog illustrated by artist Matt Furie that first appeared in a 2005 comic ‘Boy’s club’. Pepe became an internet meme after Matt Furie posted the cartoon on his Myspace blog, it quickly went viral and got reposted to 4chan in 2008. By 2015 it was one of the most popular internet memes and many variations of the frog started popping up online.

By 2010, Pepe the Frog had become a symbol within alt-right and white-supremacist movements. Since then, Matt Furie has sued many such extremist organizations for attempting to profit from his illustration.

Matt did welcome the use of Pepe the frog during the Hong Kong protests.

The use of Pepe the frog and monka emotes on Twitch is completely unrelated to alt-right movements.
